here comes the bride

I love it when people want personalized dolls but for a teeny tiny thing: the secrecy. And the waiting that goes with it.

Usually I share pictures on the go, but with secret projects I have to wait until the big reveal has been done at the other end. And I don't like it.
The waiting is painful also because I don't know if the recipient is going to like my work or hate it and if you know me you already know about my anxiety issues.

This has been my second bride'n'groom project.

The first ones were the prototypes, the founding parents of the House Of Dolls Project.
I always write down my new patterns as I create them. Right now I have a notebook's worth of doll variations. Every new doll has its due page in it. Every sleeve, sock, shoe, knickers, collar, hair style, belt, glove, has been documented so far.
I've discovered some things on the way.
1 - The size matters. A wee difference might make a big impact in the final result. Always write down the crochet size and the yarn you are using.
2 - The same pattern made with two different combinations of yarn and crochet produces very different results. Drops Paris vs DMC Natura Just Cotton.
3 - Some kids like to name their dolls, and some don't. As far as I can remember, I was part of the second group. did you name your dolls when you were little?

M'encanta que em demanin nines personalitzades si no fos per un petit detall: mantenir el projecte en secret. I l'espera que l'acompanya.
Normalment comparteixo fotos de les meves nines mentre les faig, però amb els projectes secrets he d'esperar fins que el destinatari ha rebut la nina. I no m'agrada.
L'espera és també dolorosa perquè no sé si la nina agradarà o no i, si em coneixeu, ja sabeu lo bé que gestiono l'ansietat.

Aquest ha estat el meu segon parell de nuvis.
El primer parell van ser els prototips, els pares fundadors de The House Of Dolls Project.
Sempre escric els patrons nous mentre els vaig creant. Ara mateix tinc una llibreta plena de variacions. Cada nina nova hi té la seua pàgina. Cada màniga, mitjó, sabata, calceta, escot, cabell, cinturó, guant ha estat documentat.
En el camí he descobert algunes coses.
1 - La mida importa. Una petita diferència pot tenir un gran impacte sobre el producte final. Procureu escriure sempre el número de ganxet i la qualitat de fil que feu anar.
2 - El mateix patró fet amb dues combinacions diferents de fil i ganxet produeix resultats molt diferents. Drops Paris vs DMC Natura Just Cotton.
3 - Hi ha infants que posen noms als ninos, i n'hi ha que no. Que jo recordi, jo era part del segon grup. Vosaltres els hi posàveu nom a les nines?

A year of unbirthdays #1

FACT: I can't seem to be able to remember the birthdays of my friends offspring. 

FACT: I'm in a doll making mood.

DECISION: this year I will celebrate unbirthdays, randomly, with dolls.

January and February have been already deployed and are happy with their new owners who had decided to share their names with the dolls, so we have a Bruna and a Judit. 

March is almost finished already.

I'm using the same pattern for all of them, but they are all different.

I've been polishing the pattern since I made the bride and groom and now I'm quite satisfied with it, but still tweaking it a bit here and there.

The hair is one of the parts with more variations, even though January and February are similar, March has buns.

I use Drops Paris (cotton) for the body and dress of the dolls and Drops Karisma (wool) for the hair.

HECHO: Parece ser que soy incapaz de recordar el aniversario de los hijos de mis amigas.

HECHO: Estoy en plena fase productora de muñecas.

DECISIÓN: Este año celebro nocumpleaños, sin ningún orden concreto, con muñecas.

Enero y Febrero ya han sido entregadas y son felices con sus nuevas dueñas que han compartido sus nombres con sus muñecas asi que tenemos una Bruna y una Judit.

Marzo está casi acabada.

Estoy usando el mismo patrón para todas pero son todas diferentes.

aun estoy puliendo el patrón de los novios y, aunque ya estoy bastante satisfecha, aun lo ajusto un poquito cada vez.

El pelo es una de las partes con más variaciones, aunque Enero y Febrero lo tienen parecido, Marzo tiene moños.

Utilizo Drops Paris (algodón) para el cuerpo y el vestido de las muñecas y Drops Karisma (lana) para el pelo.

Nature, bottled

He començat una linea nova a la botiga. I el seu nom ho diu tot: natura embotellada. De moment tinc trèvols, fulletes, unes primaverals i unes altres de tardor i aquesta setmana hi afegiré roses. 

També és la primera entrada del blog que faig des del mòbil... a veure si me'n surto.

I've started a new line at the shop. Its name speaks for itself: nature, bottled. So far I have shamrocks, tiny spring and autumn leaves, and this week I'll add some roses.

This Is The Matrix

Primera venda on-line  feta i entregada amb éxit.

És el segón buff de Matrix que faig. 

El primer el vaig fer per un regal d'aniversari per al meu cosí Hector. Que perqué un buff de Matrix? Doncs perque entre els dos  potser vam anar unes 6 vegades al cine a veure-la, una de les vegades deixant el sopar a taula a mig menjar, anant cap a Lleida a tot lo que donava el cotxe i corrent de Cap-Pont al principal PER TORNAR A VEURE-LA.

"My name is Neo"  era la seua frase preferida aquell estiu.

Quan em vaig proposar fer un 

any sencer de regals d'aniversari a punt, el seu va ser dels que em vaig haver de pensar menys.

Després van venir tots els maldecaps per a fer un gràfic amb els símbols de la pantalla, i després per a fer el buff. Seguir un gràfic amb frases és molt més senzill perque no et perds amb tanta facilitat. Però va valer la pena.

Quan vaig obrir la botigueta a Etsy, se'm va acudir posar-lo com producte per comanda. I tot just al dia següent el Lluis me'n va comprar un. Va ser la primera venda de la botiga i em va fer moltíssima il·lusió.

Com que l'havia de fer, li vaig oferir l'opció d'introduir algo personal a les columnes de codi, el del Hector també porta missatges entre el codi. Aixó també fa que el producte sigui únic.

The first one was a birthday present for my cousin Hector. Why a Matrix cowl? Because  we went to the cinema to watch it about 6 times (3 times each), one of them leaving our dinner half eaten on the table, going to town as fast as the car would go, running along the bridge to the cinema TO WATCH IT AGAIN.

"My name is Neo" was his favourite sentence that summer.

When I decided to knit a whole year of birthday presents, his was amongst the ones I had to think about the least.

After that came all the pains to make a good chart out of the matrix screen symbols, and after that to make the cowl. To follow sentences from a chart is way easier because you don't get lost all the time. But it was worth it.

When I opened my little etsy shop, I offered it as a made to order product. And just the day after, Lluis bought it. It was the first sell of the shop and I was delighted.

As I had yet to knit it, I offered him the option of adding something personal between the columns of code, my cousin's has also personal messages inside the code. That makes the product unique.
