the never-ending skein |

Vaig estar cabdellant dues hores i quart.

My cousin got married the 8th of June. We're all thrilled with the event. For different reasons, because we love him, because, let's be honest, this will be the only wedding with all the trimmings in the family and because in the end everyone
could go.
blocking test |
A shawl was the answer.
But, which one?
First we had to agree on its shape.
A triangular shawl will be too long on her back and a rectangular one too big on her front, a crescent shape was more suited for the job.
She chose sweet Dreams by Boo Knits.
Using silk was my call.
We bought it online at Dye for Yarn (etsy).

We didn't trust the colours in the computer screen, so, just to be safe we order two skeins. One in natural just in case and one in a green we thought would go nicely with the dress. The green one was just perfect.
I spent 2 1/4 hours making a centre pull ball. Not a knot or imperfection in the whole skein.
I bought the pattern from internet too, at Ravelry. This has been my first Boo Knits experience, but I'm sure it won't be the last (I bought the pack and I have to get my money's worth and I love the designs).
Sweet Dreams seems more difficult than it really is. There aren't complicated stitches. No nupps, no 3to9s. It's main difficulty is the beading... and we didn't do it. I thought I wasn't going to have time enough to knit all those beads, but, knowing now the time it took me to finish, maybe I had time enough!
Starting a piece with 2 stitches to finish with more than 400 is kind od funny.
I must say, though that the last row was a nightmare instead of a dream. It's a picot binding, you have to CO 3 st, then BO 5, then CO 3 more... never-ending.
Another thing that worried me was the wet blocking. I saw on Ravelry that it was the right way to go, even if it was silk. But, as I didn't trust it 100%, I did a swatch, soaked it and blocked it. It worked perfectly and I could soak the shawl without fears.

no more croissant |
when I block a crescent shawl, I usually start at the points and work towards the centre. BUT with this kind of crescent shawl, due to its construction, you have to start blocking in the middle and work your way to the points. As I didn't know it, I got a croissant-shaped shawl, but I was able to fix it by wetting the centre again and blocking it the right way. After that, the croissant existed only in my memories... and some bad pictures.
